Course Title: Sleep Apnea
Course Description: 5 Hours of Lecture plus a 2 hour of hands-on workshop, presented by Dr. Bob Finkel.
A review of Dental Sleep Medicine focusing on Sleep Architecture, Airway Anatomy, Patient Examination, Diagnosis, and Treatment of patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea in the setting of a general dental practice.  Emphasis will be placed on knowing when to treat, when to refer, and how to treat using Dental Sleep Appliances.  The focus will be on understanding the nature of the problem with various treatment options, rather than on choosing and delivering a specific dental sleep appliance. Approx 5 Hours Lecture and 2 Hours Workshop.

A hands-on practical workshop which enables dentists and assistants to get started in the treatment of Sleep Apnea Patients with Dental Sleep Appliances.  Emphasis will be placed on choosing the appropriate appliance, proper impressions, using the George Gauge, and proper bite registrations for fabrication of the dental sleep appliance.  Various bite registration techniques will be reviewed.  Approx. 2 hours.

Bio/Qualifications: 

Dr. Bob Finkel is a general dentist practicing just outside of Atlanta in Suwanee, Georgia, USA.  Dr. Finkel’s practice specializes with emphasis on dental sleep medicine and treatment of orofacial (TMD) pain.  He is a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, New York, USA and Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. Finkel served on the faculty of Emory University School of Dentistry and is an Associate Faculty member of Georgia Regents University School of Dental Medicine.  He earned a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry, is a Fellow in the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics, a Fellow of The Atlanta Craniomandibular Society and a charter member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.  (Formerly the Sleep Disorders Dental Society)

Dr. Finkel’s emphasis is on the integration of many sub-specialties of dentistry such as comprehensive restorative techniques, proper use of biomaterials, dental sleep medicine, the connection of facial pain, occlusal issues, and proper diagnosis into a general dental practice. He has lectured on dental sleep medicine and orofacial pain treatment to fellow dentists with the goal of helping colleagues integrate these techniques into their own practices.

Dr. Finkel credits, Rhonda, his wife of 25 years, with his success. They have two children, Jeff and Kami.  Dr. Finkel enjoys traveling, reading and spending time in the North Georgia mountains with Rhonda and their Yorkie-Poos, Zoe and Ziva.
